Paramount Duty

To drive home the point about funding education I looked up the State Constitution. (yes my life is that boring today) Here is what it says:
"SECTION 1 PREAMBLE. It is the paramount duty of the state to make ample provision for the education of all children residing within its borders, without distinction or preference on account of race, color, caste, or sex."
So the definition of paramount is "superior to all others." The definition of ample is "generous or more than adequate."
So this could read, the duty, superior to all others, is for the state to provide more than adequate funding for education. I contend that the state has let us down. We should never be faced with a decision to raise taxes or lay off teachers, close schools, or to cut funding to education. We should be faced with the decision to raise taxes or face reduction in __________________ (insert government service here).
Our state representatives have not only failed us but more importantly they have failed our children. They have decided to reject their paramount duty and they have chosen roads over math, prisons over science, environment over literature, and arranging conjugal visits for prisoners over teaching our children. It is time to remind them of their duty. Our children are far too important.
