It's that time of year again. Call it autumn, fall, or the holiday season. But really it's budget time. In honor of all the hard work that the city has put into the budget I have included my little parody of Clement Clarke Moore's "Twas the night before Christmas." Enjoy!
Twas that time of the budget, and all through the town
Not a citizen was stirring, they had all laid down.
The wish lists were all submitted with care,
In the hopes that the budget fairy soon would be there.
The council was nestled all warm in their beds,
While dreams of pet projects danced in their heads.
The finance director stayed up in his room,
Trying to keep the city out of fiscal doom.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
We all sprang from out beds to see what was the matter.
The budget was tight and revenue down,
There was wide spread panic all through the town.
The city was worried about parks, roads and bridges,
The Mayor's forehead had wrinkles and ridges.
They worked really hard, and all did their best,
Now it is time to put it to the test.
This Thursday your invited to come and to see,
What the cities new budget is going to be.
So at 7 pm come to the fire house,
And listen to the council as quiet as a mouse.
Then you get to speak and say what you will,
It really is fun and even a thrill.
So come an speak on Thursday night,
It really will be quite a fun sight.
Happy budgeting to all,
And to all a goodnight.
So clever! Makes me wish I didn't have 3 places to be that night already. I hope that the council remembers all of their constituents who said they don't want to pay more than they already do. Thanks, Thomas! - C.D.
