Is anyone home?

I feel like a flight attendant. Yes that is as hard to read as it is for me to type. I have sent 3 emails to all the members of the city council and I have waited for 8 days for a response. I have received one. Anne Laughlin, who recently lost her bid for re-election, appears to be the only one of our city council members who wants to say anything to the citizens. She will have her letter to you posted in an upcoming blog entry.
The disappointing part of this is that no other council member cares to respond. I find it discouraging that the only time that it is easy to talk to a city council member is when they want something from you, a vote, more taxes, a pet project or a donation to their campaign. I was under the impression that Duvall was a better place than that.
So why the flight attendant comment? They stand at the front of a plane and discuss the safety features of the aircraft and they explain where the exits are and how to operate them. How many of us listen to them?
It is vitally important that we as a town come together and work as a team with our elected officials. There are key issues in our future that will allow us to either succeed spectacularly or fail miserably and if we continue to ignore these issues we are destined to penalize ourselves and our children. I know the citizens are ready and we are knocking on the doors of city hall but is anyone going to answer?
Is anyone home?

  1. TP - I'm not surprised by the fact that the Council (nor the public) is not participating in this platform when you choose not to reveal your identity. It was intriguing to see your comments about the 'car tax' discussed at the last meeting when you were not even in the audience...then it occurred to me that you are more than one person and we have Benedict Arnold in our midst.

  2. Elizabeth, this is not my blog, but I'm glad for the anonymity of TP as he/she can host a more open forum for discussion than "anyone" around town. Let's welcome the chance for dialogue!

And suspecting a "Benedict Arnold" seems to undermine the virtue of public government. For those of us unable to attend all council meetings, there should be a way to know what happens there. The council's not hiding anything, are they? - Carolyn Durant
