A new Constitution?

There seems to be a lot of talk lately about whether or not we have progressed past the need for or the usefulness of the Constitution. Some will say that it no longer applies while others say that we are so far beyond what the founders saw that it is archaic and is no longer relevant. Ideas include giving the President more power, term limits for the Senate and House, and judges re-writing the law from the bench.
I see that the restraints placed on the government are being eroded. Almost daily you hear of ways the government is seeking to assume authority that they have not been granted by the people and the people are not keeping the appetite of the government at bay.
As I see it, there are two explanations for this. Either we don’t care about the liberty we are loosing or the Constitution is no longer relevant. I am not sure which is more disturbing to me.
I am interested to see what all of you think. Let me know.

  1. I am not really involved in politics that much but I do see that we are changing as a nation and it worries me. Where did we go wrong? how do we stop it?

  2. I don't think it is a simple question to answer. Some will say it is the Republican's fault, some will say the Democrat's fault. I don't think it is either. I really believe that the American people are loosing reverance for their country and its founding precepts. We feel that we have a right to healthcare, I challenge anyone to defend that position. We feel that it is the governments job to feed us and provide us with welfare when times are hard. I contend that this is the responsibility of private charities.
We need to recapture the perspective of our ancestors. They came to America in wooden boats for the chance to have a better life. They worked until they were exhausted because they knew they could make their life better if they worked hard. They would not be treated as a victim because they were a minority, financially challenged, or for any other reason. They knew that this was quite literally the greatest place in the world and they would give anything just to be a part of it.
So how do we stop it? We remember. We talk to them. We follow their example of hard work and personal responsibility. We become the people our grandparents and parents wanted us to be.

  3. It seems like the constitution is becoming less relevant as things change and people don't care that it's going so far away from what our fathers wanted and hoped for. They are becoming ignorant to the fact that we are losing more of our liberties as we give the government more liberties. It's sad that people don't care enough to vote, to question, to pursue and to participate in being a citizen of the U.S. and be an active member of their own communities. I just always hope that people will step up and that every person might stand up and start fighting for what they believe. Have times really changed that much- are we becoming the most lazy generation? Will it get better or worse?

  4. I really believe we are becoming the most childish generation. We feel entitled to it all. It seems that the more we feel entitled the more we expect others to do things for us and thus the more the government gets involved. Savy politicians are taking advantage of the opportunity to get re-elected by giving us "what we want". What they fail to see is that we are destroying the personal responsibility factor that we, as a nation, used to have.
I believe it will get better. There will be a point when people realize that they are no longer able to afford to continue down this path. When this point comes, people will start to remember the priciples that the country was founded on and they will begin to hold their government accountable again.
A big part of the reason that I started this blog was to get people the information they needed to start down the right path so we can correct some of the mistakes we have been making. So one day we can look back and see that we have gone right.
