Bin Laden

I had a unique experience yesterday whn my 10 year old asked me why so many people were we talking about this guy Bin Laden.  I explained that about a year after he was born that a group he was in charge of was killed over 3000 americans in the biggest terrorist attack on American soil in our history.
He asked why they killed him.  I asked him what he thought they should do and he replied that we ahould have thrown him in prison for the rest of his life.
I was interested in how he viewed the events of 9/11 when he didnt have the emotional attachment to that day.  He didnt understand the fear that gripped the nation and the resolve that came from that day.  The United States were completely united.  Our determination to not be victims and to deliver justice to those who so cruely assasinated so many of our fellow citizens.  Bin Laden's death is not about vengence, revenge or malice.  It is about delivering justice to the mastermind of a group of hate.  It is about taking evil out of the world, and doing it in a manner much better than he deserved.
May the world never see another like him.

  1. Danny Westneat did a similar column today in the Seattle Times. The link is http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/dannywestneat/2014950778_danny04.html

  2. Just wanted to point out to Ryan that the sentiment shared in this blog and Danny Westneat's blog is probably a similar theme across all blogs. Like Thomas mentioned, this is one event that unifies all clear thinking Americans.
