So I realize that politicians will generally do anything to make political points regardless of the how tasteless it can be but I have to say that I have to say that our President has taken it too far. I understand the pathological need to take credit for the all the work that has been done to eliminate Bin Laden. I understand the desire to be seen as "the guy." I understand the urge to be in front of the cameras acting Presidential.
But, I don't understand why the trip to New York to ground zero to lay a wreath. No speech, no announcement just a blatantly obvious photo shoot of the President caring about the victims of 9/11. While I can't obviously comment on the Presidents intentions but it seems questionable.
I really don't understand the President's announcement that he will be meeting the SEAL team involved in the raid on Bin Laden's compound. MSNBC has the following excerpt:
"President Barack Obama on Friday will privately thank U.S. personnel involved in the operation against Osama bin Laden, an administration official said Thursday.
A team of Navy SEALs raided a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, on Monday, killing the terrorist mastermind. Bin Laden was later buried at sea.
Obama is to visit Fort Campbell, Ky., to address several military units that have recently returned from duty in Afghanistan. Fort Campbell is home to the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, which participated in the raid against bin Laden.
Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to join Obama on the Kentucky visit."
My first thought was how easy it would be to find out who are members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment and make the simple conclusion that one of them was the serviceman who shot Bin Laden. Then in order to take revenge on the U.S., and those men in particular, all a terrorist has to do is arrange to eliminate them one by one. Congratulations Mr. President, by trying to score political points you have put a target on the back of those fine men who were willing to give all they had even the last full measure of devotion, as Lincoln called it, for this country. They deserve anonymity, they deserve freedom to be free from worry about what will happen to them in the future, they deserve to not have targets put on their backs. They have targets on them enough when they are doing their job, don't put one on them when they are off duty too.
Like I said, I understand the need to score political points but I don't understand how you can endanger lives to score points. Shame on you Mr. President. Shame, Shame, Shame.
