Joe's Welfare Bail Bondsman

The following is from the King 5 News site.
"SPOKANE -- A KREM 2 Investigation has found that tax payer dollars can be used to bail out of jail. It is a loophole in the state of Washington's welfare program.

The EBT Quest card replaced the food stamp program. It is a state funded debit card. State welfare dollars can be used to bail out of jail and it is perfectly legal."
So I may be old fashioned, a codger or just a strict no nonsense guy when it comes to criminals but I really don't think we should be allowing those on welfare to use that money to bail themselves or their friends out of jail.
This is really one more way where the government should be cracking down on wasteful spending.  We all cry about the government spending and we all talk about the deficit but we continue to allow this type of waste and abuse.  If the Governor wants to trim the budget, start by closing the loopholes like this.

  1. Which is more of a waste of money: using the EBT Quest card for bail or using it to buy food for a single mother who pays $400/month for a car? It's all a waste, Thomas. Those who are struggling to eat should go to food banks and churches, not the government.

Great blog by the way - just heard about it from a neighbor!

  3. You know, I'm reading this while I'm watching the government union workers picket on TV and I think it all comes back to a greedy entitlement society. So many people grow up being told society owes them because they are minority, they have a disability, they are in a union or any other reason that applies to them. Few people work because they are contributing to society, instead they are doing as little as they have to to collect what society owes them. I almost wish this country could go back to a great depression like time where we would all have to pull ourselves up by our boot straps.
Rome is burning and I think it started this week in Wisconsin.
