A word from John Adams

"I always consider the settlement of America with reverence and wonder as the opening of a grand scene and design in Providence for the illumination of the ignorant and the emancipation of the slavish part of mankind all over the earth."
John Adams 1765

"To preserve it must be the responsibility of every citizen.  Each step in the public administration of government concerns us dearly.  The steady management of a good government is the most anxious, arduous and hazardous vocation on this side of the grave.  It becomes necessary for every subject to be in some degree a statesman, and to examine and judge for himself of the tendency of political principles and measures."
John Adams 1763
