Mike Yakovich

Sunday evening Mike Yakovich passed away while mowing the lawn.  He was a teacher at Cherry Valley Elementary for 31 years and a teacher for 37.  He was my son's teacher last year and a great example to many students.  I estimate that he had over 800 students in his 37 years of teaching and I know he has had a huge influence on many of them.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family.  I pray that they will recieve comfort in their time of need and that they are able to understand how much he meant to all of us as well.  We are thankful for all his years of service, his example to the students and his dedication to our community.
Thank you Mr. Yakovich.  You will be missed

  1. I just heard tonight. My dad has been teaching with Mike for those last 31 years and many of my friends were in his class. What terrible news. Good thoughts go out to his family.

  5. My son had Mr. yakovich last year and loved him and now has another longtime,Cherry Valley teacher, Mr. Weir to help him through this tough time. He is lucky to have such strong male role models to teach him.

  6. Polly,
If there is anything we can do please let us know. You and your family are in our prayers.
Here is what he has done for my son: When we asked him what he had learned from Mr. Yakovich he said he taught him to always do his best and he expected him to be great because he was.
That is a gift that he will always have because of your Dad.
    Thank you

  7. Polly, those of us whose children were taught by your father thank you and your family for the time he shared with us. Teachers seem like an extension of our own families. Their pictures are in our albums, their notes pasted into scrapbooks, and their comments form and mold our children into who they are. As parents we entrust teachers with our most valuable posessions- our children. It is a sobering responsibility. I was honored to trust your dad with my son. He never let me down. Regina Millard
