Throw it out

Perhaps I have been a little hasty to judge Elizabeth Walker and the public policy stance. I suppose I should be happy that she answered my email despite the policy she stated. Maybe if more of our representatives talked to us we would be better off. In fact lets throw the policy out all together. What do you say Councilmember?

  1. Give Elizabeth Walker credit for answering to explain her position. What about Vicki Edwards? I would think she would want to answer to tell her side of the story about the controversy. Michelle

  2. I agree. I have asked her and all the council members to comment and the only person to reply was Elizabeth Walker. Now her response left something to be desired but at least she responded.
    Thank you Elizabeth.

  3. Why is it that the arguments are so often steming from Walker is better then Edwards or vice versa? What am I missing here?

  4. Dave asks a better question, I think, than he may realize. The short answer is the appearance of Walker vs. Edwards is random; several other Council members could be substituted for Walker in that comparison. There is a much more involved 'big picture' answer as well, that would be very interesting to reveal. But to voice it would require pointing out real-world political realities in Duvall that I seriously doubt the blogger and the loyal followers of this blog are unwilling to comprehend. JP

  5. John,
I have always said that we need to get to the truth and to have the discussion. if you have some light to shed on the subject, then by all means please do.

  6. It's not quite correct to say that Elizabeth Walker is the only Council member to respond. I was skimming through the older posts and saw mention (Is Anyone Home? Nov. 21) that former Council member Anne Laughlin had responded, with the promise that her letter would be posted later. Was it? I couldn't find it. FactChecker

  7. Fact checker,
I was referring to the emails I sent to the current council members. As you pointed out Anne Laughlin is no longer a member of the council and was not included in the email string. The only council member to respond to the email was Elizabeth. So the statement is 100% accurate.
As far as the Nov 21st post is concerned, Anne has since declined to write a letter because she felt it would not be respectful of the new council members. I chose not to comment on her declining the offer.

  8. I shouldn't be blogging at work but business is slow this morning. Why do you think Anne Laughlin lost her seat in the last election? She seemed to have some pretty strong support. FactChecker

  9. From what I understand she had some personal issues that limited her campaigning, there was a Political Action Committee specifically started to ensure she did not get elected, this PAC widely published misleading and false statements, and the citizens just wanted a new council member.

  10. I don't recall receiving anything against Anne Laughlin. I read her candidate statement in the paper and heard her being interviewed on KVI by Kirby. What were the misleading and false statements. FactChecker

  11. I would rather not relay the things stated in the flyer. If you want to see a copy of the flyer I would suggest contacting Skylar Hansen. He is the person who started the political action committee that put out the flyer. He lives in Duvall and I am sure that you can find his contact information fairly easily.
But to answer your question he used an old newspaper article to make it look like Anne would be ineligable to run for office, even though the county elections department had a hearing, which Mr. Hansesn was in attendance, and they decided that there was no problem with her running and she had acted in complete compliance with the law.

  12. I will look into it. Is this Skylar Hansen really so politically powerful that he determines election outcomes here in Duvall? FactChecker

  13. No. There were many factors in last years election that affected the outcome. The flyer had some effect but by itself it was not enough to loose the election. I just think that we can debate issues without this type of campaigning and it is a shame that this was the avenue he chose.
And from what I hear he has caused quite a bit of tension with his political allies as a result of his recent article in the paper. I would assume that any political power he did have was diminished by his recent actions.

  14. Who are his political allies?

  15. I can tell you that in recent elections he has enthusiastically supported Dianne Brudnicki, Elizabeth Walker and Amy Ockerlander.

  16. Michelle commented "Sounds like Mr. Hansen is in good company. I voted for all of them."
My response is: I appreciate you voting and being involved. The point I was making was that while these council members may be good company, from what I hear these council members may not see Mr. Hansen as good company.

  17. Michelle,
Are you a friend of Skylar Hansen? You seem very protective.

  18. I agree with Mike. It makes my spidey sense tingle.

  19. Maybe JP would like to shed a little light on the Hansen phenomenon. I understand they are friends.

  20. Thomas, was there a particular reason why you addressed me as John? Now I'm the one asking the question, am I missing something here? JP

  21. I know of a guy who signs all his emails as JP. Is your name John?

    ReplyDelete
  22. My name is John Pennington and I live here in Duvall. Two days ago I was alerted to the fact that my name and initials were being thrown around on this particluar blog. I want to make it very clear that if I have something to say here (which I do not), I will sign it openly under my own name.

Whoever is suggesting that I am participating in this forum is misleading you.

    Thank you.

    John E. Pennington

  23. John,
Welcome to the blog. I do not believe that your name was ever mentioned on this blog and I am sorry that you have the same initials as anyone else who may comment here.
For you piece of mine no one suggested to me that you were participating.
Either way feel free to comment anytime you like.
    Thanks

  25. Yeah it seems like john Pennington is a little too quick to jump to conclusions.

  26. Mike,

Perhaps if this wasn't such a strange and cult-ish site, with silly pointed editorial comments from the "moderator", then individuals whom recognize themselves in the snippy posts would have no reason to seek this out to respond. Can't have it both ways, gentleman.

Certainly "Paine" seemed to be directing his comments to someone in particular.... If the writer is going to throw stones at members of the community, I don't think s/he should be surprised if someone comes to the field with a bat.

There seems to be a lot of silly buddy style small-town politics on here rather than true discussion on local "issues" and it gets boring. In political philosophy, a good waltz is preferable to a tap dance, nes pas?

    Enjoy the banter. Good night.

  27. Politicalinclin,
I am intrigued at this post. I have reviewed the posts many times and still can not find any reason why Mr Pennington would assume that he was in any way reffered to. is there something I am missing on this issue?
Also, please explain where I have "thrown stones" without good cause?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love how Politicalinclin calls this a cultish site where stones are thrown but then does not tell who they are and continues to read and post here. It seems a little like telling off your friends because they act like you.
