I came across a quote from Ronald Reagan that applies to our discussion yesterday. It is as follows:
"The kind of government that is strong enough to give you everything you need is also strong enough to take away everything you have."
I see this as an issue that we are having on the local level. Our city wants to give us everything. Part of this is our attitude and part of this is a failing of the government.
We, as citizens, often expect the best parks, roads, transit, and anything else we can get. And the politicians, trying to be everything to everyone, try to give us everything we want. We need to realize that the government is not the answer to our problems. We need to be more self reliant, more independent, and more responsible for ourselves and our community.
The government needs to stop trying to make everyone happy. A good leader does what is best for the people. They realize that the current appetites of the public are not always the best course. They actually need to lead rather than follow the whims of the people.
Gone moderate,
ReplyDeleteWhile I appreciate your continued postings, I tire of your constant accusations and baseless allegations you throw out in your posts. Let's have the discussion. For this to work you must base your statements in fact and you must back up your allegations. There are several occasions when you have been asked to add proof to your assumtions and allegations and you have declined.
When you decide to begin the conversation then we can continue to hear from you. Once you answer the questions asked of you yesterday then I will post your comments you made today.
Thank you
Thomas
I see that we are still waiting to hear from gone moderate. suprise suprise

Hold on a second, I've been looking through most of Thomas Paine's postings and see very few facts. It's mostly fluff and no substance if you ask me. I'd say that the blogs need to become more fact based before you can expect contributors to do the same.
ReplyDeleteGoneNuts
Once again an example of a accusation without facts. I don't mind if you say that the postings are without facts but then you must show me which ones you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteThe benefit of having my own blog is that I am able to set the tone, topic and structure of the debate. I offer you the option to post here and in return I expect certian things. If you choose not to post because of this I completely understand.
Thanks
It wasn't an accusation without facts, it was a fact that was also an accusation.
ReplyDeleteStillNuts
nuts,
ReplyDeleteWhen you say it is mostly fluff and few facts, give examples. Which posts do not have facts?
Which are fluff?
It's not so hard folks. your not required to post here. If you don't like it don't read it. There are many of us who like the posts and I look here to see what's going on in the city. And by the way calling yourself nuts isnt the best way to convince the rest of us that you are right.

Thank you Scott for the support. I am glad I can help.
