With all the talk of the debt ceiling and all the political rhetoric out there I was most shocked by a comment from a friend of mine on facebook. She started her post by saying the following "Can I just say I wish Congress could swallow some of their egos and just get along. Never seen in my lifetime such an ineffective group of politicians. But of course somehow people will blame Obama with all this mess."
I just assumed she was taking the default position blaming the other party for the woes of the president until I read a little further where she posted this:
"Obama's getting blamed only because the GOP can't stand the idea of a black man running the country."
I was shocked that this educated person's default position that disagreeing with someones policies meant that I was a racist.
This is what I was talking about in the last post. Policies and politics do not effect the character of the person supporting those policies. There should be no connection between politics and personal attacks.
I don't vote for my representative to go to Washington to compromise. I vote for my representative to go there to represent me. My vote in 2010 meant "no more spending" and I really did mean "no more spending." It has nothing to do with being able to get along with people. It has nothing to do with the color of anyone's skin. It has everything to do with the fact that our country is going bankfupt on things we don't need and it has to stop NOW

I'm sure it's a typo, but I really like the word "bankfupt" Debbie. It sounds like "bankfu***d" which really is more accurate than bankrupt.

Debbie does bring up a good point. The 3 branches of government were put in place to provide checks and balances and the 2 major political parties were put in place to provide choice. Never was our structure of government ever intended to promote compromise. Who's the idiot who started suggesting people in government need to compromise and get along?
ReplyDeleteHoward
generally the people pushing compromise are the people on the losing side.
ReplyDeleteAnyone notice S&P just downgraded the credit rating for the United States of America? Who are the idiot people who think Obama is still doing a good job? He killed our economy, he killed the space program, he killed our alliances (Israel, Great Britain, France, Canada...). What has he made better? My question is: is he doing this on purpose or is he truly even more inept than Carter? I don't think I'm naive enough to believe that all of these screw ups are on accident.
