Failure on a massive scale

Kathy Lambert and Jane Hague are on my list.  Not the good one, mind you but the one titled "Failure on a massive scale".
These generally strong advocates of voter's rights, completely failed the citizens.  They joined Democrats in voting to increase car tabs an additional $20 a year to pay for transit.  The reason I say that they failed is because had they voted no (as they promised they would up until the day of the vote), then the question would have been sent to the voters to vote on in November. The people would have decided if they wanted to be taxed again to benefit transit.
However, they circumvented this process by joining the Democrats on the County Council and created a super majority capable of by passing the electoral process. This is disturbing, that they are so afraid of not getting the money they want that they are willing to throw out their integrity to get it.  They promised up and down time and time again that they would vote no and that they would send it to the people to decide.  They utterly failed the honesty test on this one and showed that it is now time to replace them as council members.
When politicians lie to the public to get what they want from the people and do all they can to bypass the citizens in the process, then it is time to replace them.  They have shown that in the integrity department, on this issue, they are truly a Failure on a massive scale.

  1. So does this mean that the empty buses will continue to roll through Duvall? This makes me so angry. What a perfect example of a colossal waste of money and we were so close to actually cutting back on worthless government services. I'm sorry to the three people who ride the bus from and to Duvall, but the rest of King County shouldn't be subsidising your ride.

  2. Isn't Hague up for re-election, with a tough primary? Not smart.

  3. Hey Doug,
Are you saying Jane isn't smart? Or are you saying the King County voters aren't smart? I bet it's the voters.

  4. Hey, "Jill", are you still writing from San Antonio?

And, Rob, I can understand why you are particularly upset by an extra $20 per auto for road repairs...since you have a problem paying for your car tabs in the first place.

  5. Funny.
I actually never said where I stood on this issue.
This post was about the failure of these councilmembers to be honest and their failure to keep their promises.
I wonder if you, "Councilmember X" will be honest enough to share your name. Or if you will attack those who may disagree with you and then hide behind your fake name.
Either way I did appreciate your sad and a little desperate attempt at humor. Keep trying, you might get it some day.

  6. Councilmember X,
Why would you think I am in San Antonio? I have lived in Duvall for years.
I would like to know who you are so I can keep this bizarre behavior in mind next time I go vote.

  7. Jill,
Maybe Councilmember X was talking about your recent vacation? Although it is creepy to think councilmembers are keeping track of when and where we go on vacation.

  8. I was in San Francisco for vacation. I guess he got the San right. No, Mr. Councilmember X, I am not still in San Francisco, I am back home. I had a wonderful vacation, thank you for your creepy interest.

  9. Hey,
I bet Skyler is back. Welcome back, Skyler! But just one point of clarification: adding your name to run as a councilmember and then chickening out and withdrawing your name doesn't make you an X-councilmember or even councilmember X

  10. Thomas,
This is another example of personal attacks instead of debating the issue. Skylar should have explained why everyone should pay an additional $20 in car tabs to ensure 3 people still have a bus ride to and from Duvall. Instead he made a snide comment about Jill's vacation.

  11. I don't know for sure who wrote the comments but I agree that it is a poor example of how to address an issue. If we spent more time discussing issues and less time calling each other names and trying to score points by pointing out each others faults then we would be a lot closer to the America our founders dreamed of. Here is to us acting like grown ups.
