Thanks Lara

A couple of days ago Lara Thomas, Duvall's Planning Manager posted some great information on the blog.  I think it was comment 36 on one of the posts so I wanted to make special mention of it again so we all had a chance to see it.  Here is her post:

Hello Gone Right Friends,

I wanted to let you all know that 2010 Land Use Committee Summary Reports are now avaliable on the City of Duvall website. Go to www.duvallwa.gov then click on the Mayor and City Council link, then click on the City Council Committees, and finally click on Land Use Committee Summaries. I will have them posted once a month. I will try to have the 2009 LUC Summaries posted in the next week or two. Thank you for your intrest.
Lara Thomas, Planning Manager

I hope that we all take the opportunity to take a look at it and next time you are at City Hall pop in and tell Lara thanks for making our local government that much more accessible.

  1. this is really a step in the right direction. I am glad to see that Lara has started to post these on the website. I wonder if the other committees will follow suit?

  2. We definitely need more of this at city hall. I am so tired of the attitude of some council members who feel like they are not responsible to us. They act nice and they pretend to care when they are looking for my vote but the only time I see them is when they want something from me.
I am glad Lara is willing to step up and do the right thing even if the council won't.

  3. Thanks Lara! I agree with Mike's sentiments whole heartedly.

  4. Just a note to say that the Land Use Committee discussed this in committee and agreed to have our summary posted on the website. So there was council involvement in this action.

  5. Typical politician. Never let any opportunity pass when you can claim credit for something.

  6. So Mike, if council doesn't do what you want, you whine, when they do what you want, you discredit it. Did I get that part right? I guess we can extrapolate and assume that 50% of the negative things you say are actually what you wanted :)

  7. No you did not get it right. Try reading more carefully before you start extrapolating from your high horse.
I was annoyed because just last week there was a posting about how Council member Brudnicki should be given credit for making the meeting minutes public.
Now that someone else was given credit for the work of actually putting it on the website, Council member Brudnicki feels the need to pounce on it and make sure she gets credit.
I doubt that any council members actually posted the material on the website (which was what the comment was about).
What I want is the Council to be more proactive in getting the information out to the public. I want them to take credit for the good things they do, to take the blame for the bad things they do and to allow staff the credit when the staff does the work.
Councilmember Brudnicki's comments made her look petty and it is not at all like her or her reputation. I hope that this was just a fluke and that in the future something more like "thanks for helping to post the minutes for us Lara" would be more appropriate and would show that she appreciated what the staff does rather than making her look like she was seeking the credit for someone elses work.

  8. Mike,
Perhaps she did not mean to take credit but just wanted to let you know that members of the council wanted the information on the website as well. I agree that she could have phrased it better but lets give her the benefit of the doubt on this one.

  9. Mike, I do not see how the "...the Land Use Committee discussed this in committee and agreed to have our summary posted on the website" can be interpreted to mean "this was all my doing". Signed - HighHorse

  10. High horse(assuming that's your real name),
The original post was about Lara putting the information on the website. No council member actually put it on the website. I just thought it was interesting that with that as the basis of the conversation that Councilmember Brudnicki felt compelled to make sure that people knew she was involved.
And as a side note I never said "this was all my doing" you put those words out there.
    You seem a little biased.

  11. ok. Back to the subject at hand. Thank you to everybody for getting the information out there regardless of the media it went through.

  12. Mike, I've known Dianne Brudnicki for years and being "compelled to make sure that people know she was involved" is not what she's about. Quite the opposite. She goes out of her way to give other people credit whenever she is involved in a government or community project. She gives unselfishly of her time, effort and sometimes money to make Duvall a better place.

Since you chose to be so petty may I ask, what have you done lately to benefit our community?

  13. Hillary,
It seems that all Mike was saying is that she could have chosen her words better and he did say that this was unlike her normal reputation.
I doubt that bringing the discussion down to the level of the "I'm a better person because I give more" would be a waste of our time.
Perhaps we should all take a step back and not make this into a virtual schoolyard scrap. I can almost hear the next argument being "well my Dad can beat up your Dad!"
And really isn't that a little below all of us?

  14. I find the recent comments on this particular post to be an interesting commentary on the state of politics in America. Many years ago, the statement made by Dianne Brudnicki wouldn't have raised any fuss at all. Lately we have become so inundated with spin doctoring making huge deals about subtle nuances of language (Clinton trying to redefine sexual relations for example) that we jump all over anything that sounds like someone is attempting to spin something for their benefit, regardless of their intent.

I propose that we give people the benefit of the doubt when their words don't match their actions. I know that I'd like to be judged more on what I do than on the occasional time that I put my foot in my mouth.

  16. Anonymous - Your comment would have more credibility if you yourself spelled things correctly (sentences, sense, sentence), and if you provided examples where you think the big words are not being used correctly.

That being said, I agree - there does seem to be some negativity from time to time. I think I've been on the receiving end a few times. I have made the conscious decision to not take offense to anything posted on here. The only thing I ask is that everybody be able to support their opinions with some semblence of reasoning and facts instead of magic theories and wishful thinking.
